Borovets : Enjoying a scenic location surrounded by ancient pine forests, Borovets is dominated by the nearby Rila Mountains, which reach their highest point at the Mousala Peak 2,925m above sea level, making it the highest mountain in the entire Balkan region. Set on the northern slopes of this majestic mountain, Borovets itself is situated at an altitude of 1,390m and is especially noted for its high altitude skiing thanks to a good choice of lifts and pistes going as high as 2,600m. The resort also offers excellent opportunities for a whole range of additional sports including snowboarding, ski-jumping and cross-country skiing. Long established as Bulgaria’s oldest international skiing centre, Borovets remains the country’s most popular winter sports destination, where excellent conditions and facilities are complemented by a fine selection of hotels, restaurants, discos and shops. Bansko : Enjoying a scenic location at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, Bansko is a purpose-built ski resort that uniquely for Bulgaria also serves as a working town. As a result, it offers excellent skiing, good quality hotels and a lively après ski with the character and atmosphere of a small Balkan town. At the end of the day skiers and snowboarders can choose between returning to town on the lift, or skiing down the resort’s popular ski road. As a ski centre, it is well known in Bulgaria but just opening up to foreign visitors, one of Bansko’s most attractive features is the old town, making it a great place to explore after a day on the slopes. |
