Itinerary

Introduction

On our Independent Touring Holidays, you will be picked up at the airport and you will be taken on guided sightseeing and city tours but you may not be part of a group. You will have local contact numbers for the relevant local representative if assistance is required at any stage.

Day 1 FLIGHT TO BEIJING

Depart for Beijing. During the flight, enjoy the in-flight service including meals, bar service and the latest feature films.

Day 2 BEIJING

Morning arrival in Beijing where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3 BEIJING

Today, enjoy a full day tour including Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world, and the Palace Museum, known as the Forbidden City. This was the former Imperial palace, surrounded by walls 11m high and a wide moat. Our tour also includes a visit to The Temple of Heaven. This was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests.

Day 4 BEIJING

Drive north today to the Great Wall, 50 miles from Beijing. The Great Wall stretches almost 4,000 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the sands of Central Asia and is crowned one of the wonders of the world. It is one of the most amazing feats of human labour. We also visit the Changling Tomb Museum, the burial grounds of thirteen Ming Dynasty emperors. Changling, the largest and the oldest of the thirteen, is Emperor Zhu Di’s tomb.

Day 5 BEIJING

Today we visit the Summer Palace, twenty kilometres north-west of Beijing, which has a history of over eight hundred years and is the best preserved of all Imperial Palace gardens. We also visit Beijing Zoo, which exhibits wild and rare animals in China, such as the Panda and the Golden Monkey. Our tour also includes a visit to an elegant and ancient temple known as the Lama Temple, which is the largest and most perfectly preserved lamasery in present day China.

Day 6 BEIJING

This morning enjoy a Hutong tour (the narrow backstreets) to catch a glimpse of daily life before viewing old Imperial City relics. Our tour today will also include a visit to the Century Altar.

Day 7 BEIJING

Enjoy today at leisure in Beijing, the cultural, political and intellectual centre of China. Beijing is a fast-growing, dynamic metropolis just waiting to be explored.
