Giardini Naxos is a well-famous seaside resort on the landward side of the lungomare, a long road running alongside the shore from Capo Schisò north-west to Taormina. For a long time, the “garden town” merely served as a sheltered anchorage for nearby Taormina. The epithet originates from the cotton and sugar-cane plantations which, through the centuries, were replaced by citrus orchards. This for a longtime provided the best source of income until, in the 1950s, the place developed into an important holiday resort, thanks partly to the attraction of nearby Taormina, which provides a splendid backdrop.

Customer Review:          My partner and I have just returned from a wonderful 10 day break in Taormina...our chosen residence was The President Hotel Splendid. I, in particular, had mixed expectations after reading some negative reviews - however any fears were promptly laid to rest - our room, although on the small side, was generally clean and cool (most important as the temperature at this time of year soars to volcanic heights!) - the room was also accompanied by a wonderful view of the nearby coastline) - I recommend an early rise just to catch the sunrise which is nothing short of breathtaking. In general, the staff were welcoming and helpful; on one unfortunate occasion, the maid even offered to bathe my hand in cold water following a rather clumsy episode with the door...as for the negative reviews regarding the dinner service, with the amazing abundance of atmospheric and romantic restaurants Taormina has to offer, it beggars belief that anyone would opt to dine at any hotel in the evening, what a terrible waste! Taormina is a very chic and high end resort, and bearing in mind this hotel carries a 2/3* rating, I think Hotel Splendid offers both a competitive and satisfactory service for your money, for those who cannot lavish in 5* accommodation...
